Tuesday, August 6, from 7 – 9pm The Remsen Arts Center presents The Tuesday Night Big Band concert. The band consists of a 17 member jazz ensemble performing music from the early 20th Century “Big Band Era” plus more recent compositions.
The Tuesday Night Big Band was formed in the summer of 1991. Since that time, the band has spent each summer season and occasional holidays playing at parks, concert venues and private events such as at the Masonic Care Community.
All experienced musicians, the 14 members come from across the Utica area. At this time, 4 players from 1991 still remain in the group, and many have been in the group for nearly 20 years.
Most of the music played by the band was first popular in the 1930s and ‘40s by big bands, including ones led by Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and many others. The Tuesday Night Big Band enjoys keeping this music alive for audience enjoyment into the 21st century.
