John John Brown: Songs, Stories, & Art-Lessons from Strangers

John John Brown presents an original show Songs, Stories, & Art-Lessons from Strangers, bringing giant hand-drawn comics to the stage; weaving together award-winning storytelling songs (Kerrville New Folk Winner) and the visual arts in a live performance.

A one-man show where songs become a live graphic novel telling the stories of ordinary people and what saves them.

That’s the idea behind Songs, Stories, & Art: Lessons from Strangers, a visually rich and emotionally resonant live show from award-winning songwriter John John Brown. With only a guitar, a projector, and a storyteller’s heart, Brown guides audiences through 14 character-driven portraits, each one brought to life with original hand-drawn comics and narrative songs.

At its core, the show is about the unexpected wisdom we find in everyday people. Strangers whose stories echo our own.

From an aging Vietnam vet to a trumpet-playing orphan, from a married couple wrestling with evolution to a young man with mental illness wandering a Walmart. These stories reveal the quiet struggles and small triumphs we all know.

Described as part concert and part illustrated story hour, this one-man multimedia performance is unlike anything else on stage today. The show is fully self-contained and easily adapts to any space, from intimate house concerts and listening rooms to full theaters, with minimal tech requirements.

“So well written that every song could be a short story.” – Americana UK

A show for music lovers, story lovers, and anyone who has ever wondered what it is like to walk in someone else’s shoes. With his guitar in hand, John John may have found a new way to sing a song. Above all, he stays rooted in the soil of a good story.
