250th Remsen Remembers

Village wide celebration of the nations 250th anniversary.

July 18th-19th:

Both days - Time—11am-1pm

Remsen Arts Center: Remsen Village Display and slide show.

Library: Quilt display, book display on local history, children’s crafts.

Stone Meetnghouse: Tours and exhibits.

Remsen Depot: tours and Colonial Games (Tug o’ War, Buzz Saw, and Tag), Model T Display (Sat. only), FOOD(TBD).

Village Walking Tour Brochures Available at all touring buildings.

Folks dressed in character posted at buildings (Steuben Players or DAR) Saturday, July 18th (At the Arts Center).

Sat July 18th (At the Arts Center):

1-2pm - Cincinnati Creek presents “History Though Song.” Lori Thompson shares original songs that highlight events and people from our area.

2-3pm - Oneida Indian Nation program. Cindy Schenandoah-Stanford will discuss the contributions of the Oneida Indians to the American Revolution.

Sunday, July 19th (At the Arts Center):

1pm - Dramatic Reading of the Declaration of Independence from the porch.

1:30 PM Honoring Revolutionary Veterans Jean Kraeger, President of the R- SHS, will speak on local Revolutionary War Veterans. At the conclusion, the audience will stand to respect and honor those who fought for our freedom while a bugle plays taps.

2-3pm Fort Stanwix in the Revolution - Presented staff from Fort Stanwix National Monument. Attendees will discover the geographic importance of the Oneida Carry, how that led to Fort Stanwix being reconstructed in 1776, and its overall role in the War. In addition, participants will be introduced to little-known stories of those who served at the fort and how their contributions to the American Revolution helped to win American independence from England.

Cookies and tea to conclude the event.
